About our Institution
Sri Jagadguru Murugharajendra Arts College for Women, popularly known as S.J.M. Arts College for Women was started by S.J.M. Vidyapeetha during the year 1982 with an intention to provide higher education for the women students when there were no colleges for women in the entire district. This college at that time was affiliated to the University of Mysore, Mysore, later to Kuvempu University, Shimoga and now affiliated to Davangere University, Davangere, Karnataka.
The college is situated in the heart of historic city. It is fully equipped with adequate number of classrooms, Interactive Smart Boards, LCD projectors, Multimedia and other audio visual teaching aids. CCTV Surveillance System is operating in the campus to ensure safety of our students. Library and Information Centre is catering the information requirements of reading community. Sports facilities for conducting indoor and outdoor events have been provided. Our students are provided with residing and boarding facilities in the hostel building constructed with the financial assistance of UGC.
The college offers two Undergraduate programmes - Bachelor of Arts (B.A) with five combinations and Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com). The college was admitted to grant in aid and included in 2f and 12B of UGC Act. In addition, it offers five job oriented certificate courses. Presently, with the initiatives of Government of Karnataka and Dept. of Higher Education, Davangere University, Davangere, has implemented National Education Policy in all its constitutent/affiliated colleges, with effect from 2021-22.
The physical facilities of our institution meet the academic and administrative requirements. The Principal and Office of the principal with different sections (Admission, Accounts, Establishment, Examination, Scholarship etc.) are easily available to the students in the first floor of the college building. There is a Seminar/Conference Hall ‘Rajatha Sabhangana’ in the second floor to conduct seminars, conferences, workshops and various cultural activities. A separate ladies common room with sanitation facility is provided. Separate staff room is provided for the academic preparation of our faculty. Canteen facility is provided with hygienic food and water to cater the refreshment needs of students. Water purifier and cooler are also installed to quench the thirst of students.
The college aims at an integral and personalized education of the young by providing well planned undergraduate courses. It strives to produce intellectually inspired and nationally dedicated women. To translate the vision and commitment into action the college staff are striving hard to accord priority to the education of SC, ST and other backward students, to create a teaching learning environment and to appreciate and respect faith of all and foster religious harmony as well as national integration. Various committees like IQAC, Discipline and Cleaning , Cultural, Grievances Redressal, Women Empowerment, Career Counselling and Placement Guidance, SC/ST Welfare etc. are functioning in the institution to ensure quality education, better prospectus and safety of our students.
