            CHITRADURGA is a significant tourist centre because of its historical and geographical location. It occupies a prominent place in karnataka state as district head quarters. It was the capital of king RAJAVEERA MADAKARI NAYAKA during 1600 AD, who built seven round fort and presently is popularly known as fort city. It is located at a distance of about 200 kms. from the northwest of Bengaluru on National Highway 4, in the heart of Deccan Plateau. It is connected by rail and road with all important cities and towns of the karnataka state. This beautiful rocky green city is the seat of a famous charitable institution Sri Jagadguru Murugharajendra Brihanmath, which is well known for its propagation of socio-economic, educational and religious activities not only in the state but in other parts of India also. His Holiness, Lingaikya Jagadguru Sri Sri Mallikarjuna Murugharajendra Mahaswamiji, then pontiff of Brihanmath has established Sri Jagadguru Murugharajendra Vidyapeetha (S.J.M.Vidyapeetha) in the year 1966 for providing basic education to the rural mass of chitradurga district and other parts of Karnataka. Vidyapeetha is running learning centres ranging from primary to higher education and are now headed by His Holiness Dr.Sri Shivamurthy Murugha Sharanaru.

• To establish educational institutions which impart need based and value based education to produce dedicated world class leaders and to build a strong society which is rid of social inequality, communal hatredness and social evils.
• To Foster the educational developments of Chitradurga region with special reference to the needs of SC, ST and other backward students and to set free themselves from socio-economic, religious, caste and gender prejudice and to act as catalytic agents of social change.
• To contribute to the socio-economic development of the neighbourhood locality and region.

• To provide excellent higher education to the deserving youth and transform them into world class leaders in their fields.
